Our friend Charlie is coming to visit for the next ten days from Miami. We are looking forward to seeing him and sharing the fabulous weather and good food that we've been enjoying here. He hasn't been here since before the economic crash so things will probably be quite different for him then when the dollar and the peso were pegged together, so I'm sure he'll do plenty of shopping while he's here.
But, as much as we're excited to see him, more importantly...HE'S BRINGING US GOODIES FROM MY WISH LIST - oh and a couple of our last major bags of luggage. Charlie if you read this, yes we love you and no it's not the only reason we want you to visit :-).
It's not that we can't get most of our favorite things here, because we can, yet there are just some things that we crave, or that our friends are craving, that we will have the chance to satisfy those cravings.
What could we possibly be looking for you might ask...
French vanilla, sugar free (splenda) syrup for my coffee
El Pilon cuban coffee
Nature's Miracle pet enzymes (just the thing to get rid of pet accident smells)
Reeses Peanut Butter Cups
Compact Flash card - 2 gigabyte (not impossible to find but not easy either and terribly expensive)
and last but not least...
Salt and Vinegar potato chips (no I haven't been able to find these yet, although I did find Lay's Queso Azul which were terrible blech)
I must say though that my list was much smaller than I expected because we have been able to find most of the things we needed or desired. But there will always be something that you'll be craving from home. Darn, now that I think about it, can anyone fit a Honda CRV into their carry on luggage...
So, if you become an expat in Argentina, always keep your wish list handy for friends and family traveling to visit you. And when they ask if there's anything you need, give a resounding YES, YES!
chau
Queso azul chips sound quite dubious! I am a potato chip addict, but never ate them much in BA because frankly they did not stand up to Miss Vickie's Lime and Pepper chips which is the standard I hold all chips up to.
I keep hearing how difficult it is to find good coffee for home brew!

I would never have thought that there wouldn't be El Pilon in Argentina! I thought the Argentines were a caffeinated people!
