A few weeks ago I mentioned Google Earth, which I've listed in the sidebar links under "maps", as a great way to view an area. We actually used it for our pre-house hunting searches before we left for Buenos Aires to look at the areas around potential rentals to view green space, tree canopy, buildings, etc.
It's an interesting tool to play with and on many cities around the world you can see all of the street names overlaid onto an area, as well as grocery stores, hospitals, etc.
I created an image to show just one piece of its capabilities. The area we chose is San Isidro and Acassuso in the Zona Norte suburbs of Buenos Aires. The river shows up on the right side as a big brown splotch. The Tren de la Costa and TBA trains are marked as well. Click on the thumbnail at the left to open up a full view of the area.
I'll be scanning some more maps of Buenos Aires and the Zona Norte areas, including street maps, and will post them soon.
